Welcome to my page!
My name is Carly (Marie is my middle name). I have have my BSPH and MPH, and currently live in New Orleans. I live with my serial entreprenuer boyfriend and our King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Laney. Like most folks here in New Orleans, I love traveling, socializing, eating good food!
My perspective and beliefs about health and wellness have drastically changed in the past 5 years. I used to be engrained in diet-culture, but now I believe in a Health At Every Size (HAES) approach to well-being.
What does that mean, exactly? It means that I believe in evidence-based weight/nutrition science, and that anyone/body has the right to pursue health, but that health is not a moral obligation. We live in a wellness culture that thrives off of capitalism (diets/weight-loss programs are profitable as hell!) and make you believe that your body should always be a work in progress. It also discriminates against larger bodies, especially POC.
As Caroline Dooner says, eating should be easy. There's more to life than thinking about food 24/7. Humans aren't machines, and there's no perfect number when it comes to our food and bodies. I have struggled with anxiety, depression, binge-eating, body image, and an unhealthy relationship with myself (and others!). I share my story and provide education because I want to help others through their own struggles. I am passionate about providing education to others and in overcoming stigma related to mental health & body image.
I hope to provide inspiration, evidence-based health education, guidance, and motivation for non-weight centric health. It's that simple!
Remember; all that you need is already within you.
